Marcus Jones is a self described graduate of the school of hard knocks. He does not mind sharing self disclosure that he experienced being homeless as a youth and young adult. He uses this unique insight as a way to empower his abilities to be more empathetic and provide cultural competence as well as cultural humility when serving clients. The experiences he endured as a youth has led him to become a social worker. He has worked with individuals of various vulnerable populations from those in dire need of social services to marginalized groups such as senior citizens, minority ethnic groups, those who identify as LGBTQ, and more.

Marcus also has a plethora of experience and has spent years working with bereaved families and individuals experiencing grief. In 1999 he left his native town of Memphis, Tennessee to earn his associates in mortuary science. This allowed him to care for people in their most vulnerable state of being. He has served in the field of funeral services at establishments throughout the Northeast region from Boston, Massachusetts to Newark, New Jersey, and New York City.

In 2018 he earned his bachelors in Sociology from Lehman College in the Bronx. He is currently a 2022 candidate for graduation with two master degrees from separate colleges. Marcus is in his advanced year of earning his MSW from Touro Graduate School Of Social Work. He is also serving a fellowship with New York City Teaching Collaborative and earning another master degree in High School Special Education from Brooklyn College Graduate School. Additionally, he works as a high school special education teacher at a district 75 school in the Bronx, serving both general education and those students with learning challenges.

Marcus wants to utilize his life experiences as well as education to serve clients gracefully at the HOPE Center -Harlem. He is grateful to expand his knowledge by serving as a clinical therapy intern for the year 2021-2022. How does he find time to do all of this? One may ask. Marcus says that he embraces that spirit of altruism and is spending time doing what he loves, uplifting people.
